In 2005, Osaka College
of Music celebrated the 90th anniversary of its foundation. It was also
the year that saw a production of Teizo Matsumura's opera Chinmoku ["Silence"]
at the College Opera House, the stage on which the College presents the
fruits of its musical endeavors to the world, receive the prestigious Grand
Prize of the Agency for Cultural Affairs 60th National Arts Festival. We
have realized part of the dream of our Founder, Professor Koji Nagai, whose
fervent wish was to make Osaka College of Music a cradle of new music and
new operas, yet we are not resting on our laurels and continue to strive
to fulfill Professor Nagai's ideal | to make Osaka the musical heart of
the Kansai Region (and indeed of Japan).
No matter what your age, if you dream of making music the focus of your
life, then, why not come and study at Osaka College of Music? At our opera
house, one of very few in the world on a university campus, and a wealth
of other facilities, teaching staff endowed with an unmatched passion for
music and rich human qualities will offer you the warmest welcome and devote
heart and soul to helping you to become true performers, able to hold your
own in the world, and cultured musicians. We also urge you to take a look
at our rich curriculum and pedagogic methods, areas in which we are constantly
seeking to innovate, so as to be able to offer a speedy response to the

one of its students will treasure their days at Osaka College of Music for
the rest of their lives. We look forward to seeing you. |

The Osaka
College of Music celebrated its 90th anniversary in 2005. Osaka has long
been a key economic city responsible for Japanfs prosperity, as well as
a vibrant cultural city harnessing a wealth of mass culture and unique fine
arts. In such an historical environment, the Osaka College of Music has
made tremendous efforts in the education and research of Western music,
while protecting the music unique to Japan (ghogakuh), as one of the longest
established music colleges in Japan. Currently, some 1,368 students study
at the Junior College of O.C.M., the Osaka College of Music, and the Graduate
School of O.C.M. combined. Our facilities include
The College Opera House. No other Japanese college has a complete opera
house with a resident professional orchestra and choir.
We host a large number of concerts every year, offering
plenty of opportunities for students to express themselves.
We organize a wide variety of special lectures and open
lessons, featuring our brilliant professors and even top musicians and
researchers invited from other parts of the country and from overseas.
We also provide financial assistance to enthusiastic
students who are eager to learn music through our unique scholarship program.
